Wi-Fi Security Flaw - Tips to use Public Wi-Fi

While setting up a Wi-Fi network, you are probably prompted to check the "WPA2" which is the current industry standard. This WPA2 encrypts the traffic on Wi-Fi networks and its almost everywhere. 

According to a new researcher Mathy Vanhoef of KU Leuven in Belgium, a flaw in WPA2's cryptographic protocols could be exploited to read and steal the online traffic data of the users such as passwords, financial data.

Tips to use Public Wi-Fi Safely

1. Start by selecting the most secure settings on your PCs, smartphones, and tablets. Turn off any features that will automatically connect your device to any available Wi-Fi network. Turn off your Bluetooth unless you need to use it.
2. Change passwords as frequently as possible. If you’ll need to log in to accounts with sensitive information such as social media, banking, or email accounts — switch to new, complex passwords (Use Upper cases, numbers, and special characters).
3. Be sure to update your software and apps which most of us ignore always. However, most software updates are released because they release fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities.
4. If you do surf online, make sure the URL of the website you’re visiting starts with “HTTPS” because the “S” stands for secure, and data is encrypted.
