Older iphones performance have been reduced after updates : Apple Explains

Apple's latest software updates causing the slowdown in certain older phones.

According to Apple, there's a good reason to do this, by nature the Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, stores less and less of a charge. This happens very quickly on a device as the devices being used quite often every day.  Hence it's not a bad idea to limit the speeds on the older phones.

According to a Reddit post, People who owned iPhone 6, 6s, and 6s Plus devices reported earlier this year that they were spontaneously shutting down, even though they had sufficient battery. This was usually happening during “peak current demands,” when you’d be doing something on your phone that required a burst of power — like in the middle of a game, or downloading an app.
Those users had to plug in and recharge their phones in order to be back online. Apple acknowledged this bug and introduced a fix in an update to its operating system software, iOS 10.2.1. Phones no longer shut down, but, according to users, they did slow down.
