Gesture-based Navigations:
With Andriod P beta, Google has replaced the traditional on-screen navigation keys (need enable the gestures through the settings menu).
- App drawer: Long Swipe up
- Recent apps: Short swipe up
- Home: Single Tap
- Google Assistant: Long press home soft key
- Flip through recent apps: Drag right or left (swipe up to close an application)
- Previous App: A short swipe right
- Back soft button still exists.
Adaptive Battery:
With machine learning, the Android P helps to extend the battery life which is named as the adaptive battery. This feature tracks the frequent usage of apps and applies restrictions on the ones which you use the least so that they consume lesser battery. It will be pretty handy feature those who play loads of games.
Adaptive Brightness:
According to Google the Auto brightness feature on current phones doesn't work properly, with the help of machine learning created "Adaptive Brightness". This feature learns from user preferences and along with light sensor data sets the brightness automatically according to the preferences.
Digital Wellbeing:
This is a brand new feature and going to be very useful for those who use the phone extensively. In other words, this feature helps users to use their phone less.
The "Dashboard" provides information in hours: minutes about the usage of all apps in a day, this even tracks the number of times you unlock the device. In "App Timer" Google helps to reduce the time spent on each app and is customizable, after a certain time limit app icon even be grayed out.
"Window Down" will gray out the whole screen at night to remind the bedtime.
Do Not Disturb Mode & Shush Mode:
In Android P, Google has implemented the real usage of DND mode.
Do Not Disturb is more aggressive in general in Android P. Google is using AI to understand what notifications users don’t want to see. A swipe away notifications from a certain app without taking action, Android will ask if you want to block them entirely.
This new feature is to protect users wellbeing named as "Shush," which is activated by placing your phone on a flat surface, screen down. Once this feature is turned on, the device will automatically mute sound notifications and vibrations. In essence, it turns on Do Not Disturb Mode, but for everything — not just audible alerts.
Lock Down:
This option can be enabled via below path:
In settings, go to Security and Location > lock screen preferences > Show lockdown option toggle.
By enabling "Show Lockdown option" toggle a new button to the power menu, with this option turned on the fingerprint authentication will be disabled and only PIN, Pattern, or Password can be used for unlocking the device.
New screenshot option is also available in the power menu along with the restart option in Android P.
Auto Rotation Button:
This is a very handy little feature introduced in Android P, this feature with Auto Rotation button lets you use the device in landscape mode even though the device is locked to portrait.
Along with the all these great features, Android P comes tons of underhood features some are worth noting such as increased security (Android P will block all the apps running in the background from accessing camera and microphones), Alert tones to notify call recordings, default HTTPS for apps, autofill in browsers, ambient display for battery percentage, etc..
