Know Settings | Google App | What Google knows about our Search History??

Everyone knows how to use an Android-powered Smartphone since it is very is easy to operate. But do we know how much data Google store/collect from each Android user and from its services such as Gmail, Maps, Chrome, etc?

This is just to give a brief idea of how to be control of our privacy.

Open Google App > More > Below menu

Google App - Menu
  • Search activity: By tapping in this option users will be able to see the search history (web and app) to a particular account and this day wise break up of the history can be seen and users allowed to delete the search history if they choose to. It is important to note that incognito or private search isn't shown here.
  • Collections: Here users can see all the saved data from the apps such as maps (saved locations, favorite places, and want to go), favorite pages/news, and photos, etc.
  • Personal Search: This shows in-depth search history such as frequently contacted contacts, recently opened apps, the recent email conversations, web surfing history, and recent activities summary. Just tap on 'more' to see more information and you will be amazed to see all the in-depth history. For instance, see my history below.

Personal History (In-Depth Search history)
Now that we have seen what sort of data is being stored, let's see how can we as users can control or restrict (in fact we can not completely restrict what gets stored by Google) the search history.  In order to do this go to Settings > General Settings.

Google App - General Settings Menu
  • Turn off Recent pages if you do not want your recent history to be tracked.
  • Deselect the apps against which you do not want to see personal on-device search results.
  • Turn off the auto-complete search.
It is also important to note that disabling all such features may affect the desired search results in the future as Google uses our search results to give us better suggestions while searching.

Tip: Tap on the user icon (Top right corner), just above the search history there is an option called "use without an account", no search history will be recorded against a Google account, instead history will be shown as anonymous.
